Hello Friends.

I am trying to get a list of the dates countries celebrate Numismatics day.

So far, I found only 6, out of my own country.

Country              Date

Argentina          Apr 13th.

Brasil                  Dec. 1st.

Cuba                  July 9th.

Honduras       Jan 18th.

Nicaragua       May 30th.

Paraguay        Nov 27th.

Uruguay         Oct. 15th.

Yvonland       Every day.

Please, let me know when it is celebrated on your country (or others, if you know), and I will be updating list.

Best regards,

Daniel,

Uruguay.

I didn't know the date in any other country than Brazil and Uruguay, but for sake of curiosity: December 1st was chosen in Brazil because it's the day of Saint Eligius, patron saint of coin collectors

No national day here in the USA but we have the National Coin Week starting April 20/21 to 26/27. That's probably the closest we will get

No, it`s the date of foundation of Sociedade Brasileira de Numismática, as I know. As told me Tenor, if I don't recall wrong.

New Zealand does not have one.

But being a member of the Royal Numismatic Society of New Zealand, I could propose one. Especially now as cash is becoming endangered, especially coin denominations.

That would be July 10, as on that date Decimal currency was introduced in 1967.

Some would say, “what about the 1933 Introduction of our coins?”, but we are not 100% certain when coins circulated in that year. The coins were requested in March and started arriving from England in late November. One book says November 24th Halfcrowns circulated in Auckland, others say November 26, 28, 29 and even December. Plus that was limited to cities, country areas waited longer and the other 4 coins popped out between Feb and May 1934.

However in Taniquah - my own made up country complete with some fantasy stamps I made back in the 2000s - Numismatics day is every day.

I love coins. Especially silver, gold and anything really old.

Is a good idea to propose it to RNSNZ. At Paraguay, Argentina and Brazil, Numismatic day was established by Governments Laws, always proposed by Numismatic associations, so they are absolutely oficial-

From Google:

Canada does not have an official Numismatic Day, but various numismatic events and conventions, such as the Royal Canadian Numismatic Association convention, celebrate coin collecting and currency throughout the year. These events often include activities for collectors and enthusiasts to engage with the hobby.

which is not surprising since they tax the life out of collectors (& ultimately dealers).

I’m not a member of any UK numismatic organisation but as far as I know the most major might be the day decimalisation occurred (15th February).

Could also be 18th June. That’s the day back in 1903 when the British Numismatic society was founded.

For Mexico it could be 25th August when the central bank was founded or September 11 when the Sociedad Numismática de México was founded back in 1952.

Hi to whoever is reading this. Did you know that TYPEWRITER (on a QWERTY keyboard) is the longest word you can type using only the letters on one row of the keyboard.

I actually have my own coin day. Based on when i first started seriously collecting. 7 August, in 2021. So on that day, every year, i have started noting down my collection statistics and adding up how much I've added to my collection. Also listing stuff like top 10 countries, and average amount of coins added to my collection per day.

Nice celebration! I don't think many know when was infected with the Coinvirus. On my side, I know was on 2012, but not the exact day.
