I started this topic because the other ones don’t go into much depth and this question is bugging me so much that I’m holding off from buying coin albums, pages and the flips. Can you give me advice on how to organise a coin collection when placed into the album? Because I have a goal to get a least 3 or more coins from every country in the world that has existed since the 1900s.

If there is anyone that can give me advice on how to organise a coin when it is in the album?

BTW this is my first forum post.

I also started aiming 3 coins from each country/Issuer. First 3 coin I store in albums. When 4th one come I place them in separate 4d binders where each sheet belong to 1 country. Each coin are placed inside 2*2 coin flips (non pvc, non acidic) and each country have a display card as well.

Thanks for posting I like the way you display you coin collection I might do something similar when I buy the albums and pages. But for my personal taste I would label the coin flip with the information such as the country denomination and the year.

Display cards I bought it online (200 countries @199 INR or 2.73 USD). Few countries were not available, those I made it in Microsoft paint
Country labels also bought online (320 Flag stickers @50 INR or lest than a USD). Currency names & years, I prepared in Microsoft word and printed in sticker A4 size paper with my HP deskjet printer :)

I've tried organising my own coins into albums, and I find that it doesn't work for me. Moving coins around to introduce a new addition is such a hassle. Because of this combined with the number of coins I own (it's in the thousands), I threw away so many coin albums I had purchased in anticipation of the expansion of my collection.

I resorted to using a drawer. I recommend you do the same. You can stack coins horizontally across the length/width of the compartments, separating them by continent and then by country. This arrangement should combine the best of both worlds. Adding new coins should take no more than a few seconds, yet it's not so messy that it takes you too long to find a specific coin. Hope this helps!

Thanks for the advice I will probably use this for my duplicates because I would put the coins into an album than leave several gaps for each country to easy put in new additions .

The only downside to storing coins in albums is that 1 it can get expensive and 2 for the people who have collections bigger than 25,000 it would get bulky.

True because I like to learn from seeing it not being written out or in this case typed out.

Most of you might cringe how I currently store my coin collection.

Before picture taken January time.

G to F condition Coins currently stored.

Coins sorted and placed into bags with the country they’re from on the bag it took 2 days!

One bag close up.

Also here is how I store some of my U.K. coins

Finally the box that I store my VF to UNC coins in.

so this would help you get the idea of how I should not store coins.

Btw for the last photo the light is not perfect so some of the coins don’t look as shiny as they look like in real life.

All hobbies cost money.....guess we are lucky to be in this circle of collectors.
BluHawk you’re right but at least it not as expensive as say for example owning a classic car which I want to do in the future because I’m into cars as well as coins and banknote collecting.

Update: I’ve chosen my holders (Hartberger).
Hi to whoever is reading this. Did you know that TYPEWRITER (on a QWERTY keyboard) is the longest word you can type using only the letters on one row of the keyboard.
After many months and some late nights searching later I've decided that I need Universal 20 pocket pages because 3 ring binders and the BCW pages are very expensive, even more than what they cost in the US and the vast majority of the time out of stock. so again I need help and the question(s) is what other non PVC branded 20 pocket pages are out there and you've had good experience from?

Also they need to accept 2,3 and 4 ring binders and fit Hartberger 2x2s because I'm thinking of buying various one to see how they stand up to use or alternatively purchase the 20 pocket pages as normal then store them in these type of boxes.

(This is just a example I will find better quality ones if I choose this method)

Here is my current list of pages
  • BCW pages but limited.

  • Hartberger pages

I use standard D ring binders that you can find at any store that sells office supplies.
I like the Ultra Pro pages. They are flexible enough that it is easy to move flips around when adjusting locations.
They only fit 3 ring binders though.

Sadly they don't sell those ones over in England which is sad and to import them over would be very expensive so that's out of the question.

I suppose. There are a couple of listings on ebay UK (https://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_nkw=20+pocket+coin+page+ultrapro&_sacat=0&LH_TitleDesc=0&_sop=15) for a somewhat reasonable price (about ₤10 for a 10 pack). Still about double what the amazon listing is though :/

From Germany though and from those two links the one from Amazon US is actually cheaper than the other listing £4.99 to be exact. But off course import duties and long waiting times would play a part in receiving them.

Also basically the links I posted above are the ones I’m interested in and would like feedback form the people who have been using them for a while. To see if those pages are worth buying or not?

Where can I find those country cards online?

glorkar
They only fit 3 ring binders though.

Since in Israel binders come with 2 rings, I simply punch new holes in the pages - problem solved.

I always used to move the coins around the album so i wouldn't have empty spaces. But thats very annoying to do, so im just going to sort countries alphabetically, and leave space for new coins by adding new pages every time i fill the previous up. Even if it means having half empty pages everywhere.😅

(I used to have the collection sorted by country, but not alphabetically.)

Basically my set up is Binders with BCW Pages and 2 x 2 Saflips for date runs. For the sets I am serious on like British silver coins, I actually arrange the books by date and that way slide coins into the right hole when I get them.

I occasionally have to do rearranges for my British silver (1816 onwards I have a space for each major date for shilling and up, but only to 1887 for smaller coins) and any add ons or rearranges are for early coins (Like adding another page for shillings, when I had more Elizabethan and George II shillings that the one page of pre 1816 could accommodate!)

Standard album with home made coin cards I do with excel and print out on 160 GSM card paper. Back then I used lower quality flips and cut cards with scissors, but now have saflips and use a guillotine (Mainly from my stamp mounts) to cut cards.

Also for any coin over 33mm in size I only put one coin per 2 flips, so no more than 10 to a page, that way the page does not sag or split, a standard flip can only really comfortably handle a coin to Half crown/Half dollar/2 Kroner size. Adding cards causes chaos to a flip with a huge crown shoved into one pocket already, so any card in the other will be bulging, so all crowns, Silver Dollars, etc - these coins have coin in flip on one side and card in next pocket and if its more than one page it will be like -

Page 1 - Columns 1 and 3 coins, Columns 2 and 4 cards, Page 2 - Colums 1 and 3 cards, Columns 2 and 4 Coins, or I do diagonals like Row 1, the coin is in pockets 1 and 3, Row 2 Coins in pockets 2 and 4 and so on.

Generally when a coin is placed it stays in that place. I also log it on my excel file and have page and pocket number for each coin. I have had this system going for 4 years and are still refining it.

All albums are stored upright and I have spare pages as the pages can get worn and dirty after a few years.

Finally all my gold coins are not stored at home, but in a commercial vault in my city. Its underground and the gold is in a safety deposit box, I keep the key at home and they have the 2nd one. I have to get facial scan access to get in as well.

I love coins. Especially silver, gold and anything really old.
