I always thought the frequency was how many percent amongst the numista owners were on each year line, but here the sum of the two lines are not 100!

It is shown right below. ;)

Frequencies show the percentage of Numista users who own each year or variety among all the users who own this coin. Since some users own several versions, the sum may be greater than 100%.

Hello,

There was a lot of debate at the time of implementation of this feature, but a majority was in favor of the following definition, which is visible on the coin page, below the table with frequencies:

"Frequencies show the percentage of Numista users who own each year or variety among all the users who own this coin. Since some users own several versions, the sum may be greater than 100%."

For instance, if a coin type is owned by 10 users, including 9 users who own only the year 1 and 1 user who owns both the year 1 and the year 2, the percentages will show:
  • Year 1: 100% (all the 10 users own the year 1)
  • Year 2: 10% (1 out of 10 users owns the year 2)

Hi,

thanks, it's a rather strange way to do things, but OK it's a way to do it.

Why do some coins or banknotes not have a percentage at all shown? Does a certain a mount of users have to have the coin or banknote first before Numista starts showing percentages or what could be the reason? Thanks.

I have been thinking for myself, yes, it can happen.

I don't think we should add the coins on each year line, neither the coins for swap, just the users having a coin from a given year. I could add tens of coins for each year line, since I have them, but it would falsify the result, I find.

What is important here HOW MANY PERSONS own this year, of course that's just my humble opinion0:)

PS, thus the sum would always be 100 as well:P

The frequencies indeed show up only when there are enough owners to make the frequencies meaningful.

Only the number of persons for each year line is counted. The frequencies are independent of the quantity they entered for each year line.
It would still be possible to have a sum of 100%, but that's not the solution which was chosen. The topic was discussed and voted there: https://en.numista.com/forum/topic72983.html
