Indian sub-continent? [resuelto]

Here is another coin that I am having some difficulty in identifying. Help is greatly appreciated.
diameter varies 16.3-16.84mm, weight is 4.2g, non-magnetic possibly lead(?).

The other posters are on the right track. This is a copper kahavanu of Raja Raja Chola, 985-1014 AD, South India and Sri Lanka.

There are similar coins by slightly later rulers, but this seems to match well. All these coins are of the "octopus man" (really a ruler in robes) type.

I have experienced a few modern forgeries sold for tourists.

Thank You to everyone for their assistance with this identification. The knowledge of my fellow collectors is amazing. I must admit, I was thinking it was some sort of monkey depicted but have learned otherwise. I have others I am having difficulty with so hopefully I can tap into your knowledge on them also.
