Junk bin coin list.

I thought I would start this discussion because you hear about some really nice finds in the junk box find threads, but I myself never know what exactly to look for.

So what I am thinking is that we could make a list of coins that you specialize in or are from your country that are hard to find, have some bullion value or are just valuable in general. Now I personally think that the date range should be from around 1900-current time because if we go much older then 1850s then I believe most coins are slightly harder to get or have some value to them. (Please feel free to comment on the date range in any way) :)
The coin should also be in circulation or have been in circulation, otherwise uncirculated commemoratives or coin sets may become a problem.

So just list the country, the year of the coin, the type of coin, a small comment as to why it has value or is hard to find, and a link to the numista page if one exists.

I know the first few coins in my Australian list are pretty much impossible to get but you never know. :°

If you can contribute or have a suggestion on changing something to make it better, please do.

Kindest regards

Ben
I think the date range could probably be extended back by at least a few decades, probably until the late 17th or early-mid 18th century for Europe even.

Anyway, here are a few, of varying degrees of "scarceness" from the countries I collect from:

France
1878 and 1889 20 centimes Ceres: It sounds like a normal, common, circulating coin to the uninitiated, and it's 2nd Republic type counterpart is indeed quite common, but it's 3rd Republic counterpart has only a total mintage of just 130 pieces.
https://fr.numista.com/catalogue/pieces1147.html

1921 5 centimes Daniel-Dupuis; 141.000 or so pieces minted for colonial use in Madagascar, considered rare:
https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces678.html

Italy
1889-92 50 centesimi Umberto I; like it's comtemporary French equivalent of the 20 centimes above, this coin is very rare despite it's much larger mintage:
https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces21246.html

1895-1900 5 centesimi Umberto I; not a "rare" coin, but certainly the most scarce of the LMU era 5 centesimi types, with lower mintages than the coins of VEII or III.
https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces7521.html

1902-03 25 centesimi VE III; the coin proved unpopular for the same reason the American 20 cent coin never took off; it was too easily confused with it's 20 centesimi counterpart, and the majority of the mintage was melted down. Considered scarce nowadays, I recently found myself one in a junk bin. :`

Germany
1887-92 20 pfennigs Wilhelm II; neither are rare per se, but both eagle types are generally scarcer than the silver 20 pf that preceded them. I recently last-minute sniped an 1888 coin on Ebay:
https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces15608.html
https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces14842.html

1898-1903 50 pfennig Wilhelm II; the rarest pre-WWI type of the 50 pf/half mark coin; much harder to find than either the small eagle 50 pf before it, or the large eagle 1/2 mark after it.
https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces22640.html

Spain
1869-70 20 Centimos (1st Republic); the trend seems like LMU 0,20 denominations tend to be rare, don't they? This coin has only 5.000 or so mintage:
https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces18368.html

1894 Alfonso XIII 2 Pesetas 2nd portrait; this coin type is the rarest of it's denomination in LMU era Spanish coins, despite it's mintage of 279.000, worn examples are being sold for 175€.
https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces18487.html

1938 10 centimos (Republican issue); another one of those coins that sounds very common until you find out more; this coin has only a mintage of 1.000 coins, and in Barcelona I saw one on sale for 1.500€ apiece:

@ CassTaylor

I must say I chose the date range going off what I find in junk bins being mostly 19th and 20th century coins.
However if others agree then I am happy to make it earlier.

Like I said if you have any suggestions feel free to share I am open to any options. ;)

Most of the examples I could think of off the top of my head (and listed above) fit into your date range anyway, so I'm happy with it. It also happens to be roughly my own time frame for collecting.
I feel that this thread is being left behind a bit in the free discussion list. And it could be really helpful to us all. So if you know of any coins to add please do so. :)

I am quite new to junk bins and am a new collector, really, so these are the ones I know of and in my price range. I think I may be doing the wrong thing and please correct me if I am. Thanks.
