What has happened to this coin? [resuelto]

Obverse is fine and readable in very good condition - however reverse is like this??

Hopefully someone can answer my question i am still sorting through around 1000 coins which have been handed down to me by a family member so there a quite a few others i am unsure of.

A guess might be that someone welded it onto something else? Definitely looks like it's no longer the clean stamped surface, and it appears to be more permanent than an adhesive would have been.

Someone may have prepared it for something like this:

But did not finish his work.

The first thing that came to my mind was someone was wielding/attaching something to the back (think making it into a refrigerator magnet).
