UK Battle of Britain 50p

Hi. I made a post in the catalogue forum asking whether there is 1 version (5th portrait) of the Battle of Britain 50p or 2 versions (4th and 5th portraits) https://en.numista.com/forum/topic54434.html

I've done a swap with a collector that had the 4th portrait version listed for swap. I've just received the coins and the 50p is a 5th portrait coin. I therefore more strongly suspect that the 4th portrait version of the coin does not exist and to support this the Royal Mint mintage information only lists the 5th portrait coin.

I believe coins in BU packs were 4th portrait.

'The silver coin was issued in 2015, to mark the 75th anniversary of the Battle of Britain. The coin has three different designs of the Queen, and was the first ever 50p coin to have three designs for the two faces.

One design included a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II by Jody Clarke without lettering, and another was the same portrait with the 50p on it.

The other featured Ian Rank-Broadley's portrait of the Queen without the 50 pence lettering.

The version of the coin for sale for the large sum is the 50p with the new portrait by Jody Clarke, without the 50p denomination.

The other side of the coin was designed by Gary Breeze, and depicts soldiers running towards planes waiting the distance.

When the coin was released in 2015, Royal Mint said: “It is the only official coin to be released, and with its design showing airmen scrambling to their planes, not heeding the danger looming above, it truly echoes the spirit of the summer of 1940".'
