Select "Start a swap" from the Exchanges section of the menu ro the left. Select a potential swap partner, select perhaps 12 or 15 coins you should like to receive, send the potentialswap partner a polite message inviting them to swap, and then await developments.

I agree with Matt - you should have a look at the exchange list of a potential swap partner first to see if they have any coins you are interested in. The only thing I might say differently is that, as a "newbie", you may be better off starting with 5 or 6 coins on your first few exchanges until you have built up some feedback history.
