Just happened to have these two coins on my desk at the same time and thought that it would be interesting to see if other collectors had any similar examples of coins with almost identicle design features from countries that are so very different.
The designs don't have much in common. Bimetallic coins are not a Canadian invention.
Yes bimetallic coins are not a Canadian invention. However the hologram design and the overall aesthetic of the Dutch Carib guilder design is highly reminiscent of the Canadian toonie. That’s the point of this thread

Enjoy your coins !!!
Similarly, the size and shape of the central star on my two coins are very similar, although the rest of the designs are quite different. Maybe not the best example, but the point seems to have been taken. Happy to expand on that if people can find other similarities (although, clearly having a QEII image on a coin or note is somewhat obvious).
The Dutch Carib guilder is also minted by the RCM With the Same dimensions 28mm diameter and 1.7mm thickness, though the dutch coin comes in marginally heavier at 7.2g vs the toonie at 6.99g.
the Numista page says the Dutch coin is minted at RCM Ottawa though I highly doubt that. The Ottawa mint only makes collector coins for the last many years now. I’m suspicious that they would do business strikes for other countries there.
