Anyone else noticed the tiny ‘peak’ inside just one of the stars on the edges of the French 2 Euro coins? I've just checked and all dates seem to have this, so I'm assuming it must be some kind of security feature.
Just looking to see if this is a more common feature of 2 Euro coins, or just limited to France.
Yes, it is a mark designed to detect counterfeit currency. The following countries have it: France, Belgium, Monaco, Ireland, Spain and Luxembourg. This comes from a catalog from 2009 so I don't know if the countries who joined the euro after that date also have this mark.
