Buffalo nickel on raised ground? [resuelto]

I have found two buffalo nickels. And to my very untrained eye, it seems like one of them is on raised ground. Can any of you confirm that?

On the obverse, the date is completely worn off. So it is impossible to tell whether this is from 1913 or not. I do believe I can see a slight mark, but whether that is the F mark or not, I really can not guess at. But it clearly does not have the D on the reverse.

So based on the wear, I would say that this coin is not even of Good grade. And since the description I have of the grades says that even for Poor grade, the coin's date has to be identifiable.

So I guess my question is, is this coin worth anything at all?

I mean, it's clearly not worth more than the €2.90 Numista says for a Good grading. But is it worth even that much?

I believe there is some sort of chemical that reveals the worn off date on these, nic-a-date perhaps?

@Houseofham you use it in your coin box hunting sometimes right?

:)

Looks like raised ground to me, which automatically makes it 1913. You could use nic-a-date to reveal the date, but this seems a clear enough case where you don't really need to. Besides, buying nic-a-date for just 1 low value coin is a waste of money.

But if you insist, this is what you're looking for https://www.jpscorner.com/products/nic-a-date-date?_pos=1&_sid=6ed698693&_ss=r

You could probably find it for a little less at a local coin shop or at a coin show. You only need a tiny drop on where the last 2 digits of the date would be. Let it sit for 20-30 seconds, then just wash it off with water and pad with a paper towel.

In Poor/Fair, with no date or nic-a-dated (which counts as acid damaged) and w/o a mintmark, I feel it wouldn't be worth more than a dollar, if that. If you collect buffalo nickels, it'd only be good as a placeholder, until you find a better one.

HoH

Thank you for your replies.

You basically confirmed what I assumed, both that it is raised ground, and that it is next to worthless. Which is nice to know.

No doubt it's a raised ground. Look how far the F is from the rim. So don't waste your money on nic-a-date so you're already sure now the date is 1913.

The E C is clearly visible so you can assume the area just under it, where the mint mark should be if there is one, would reveal the mint mark too, but it doesn't. Which is quite normal since the 1913 without mint mark is much more common than with mint mark.

The main reason the raised ground was stopped was because the FIVE CENTS wore away very quickly.  If you can't see the distinct horizontal line it means it's a raised ground no matter how worn.
