Barbarous imitation? Or imitation of a barbaric? [resuelto]

Thanks in advance for anyone who can help me improve my understanding of this silver-colored coin measuring 17mm and weighing 0.9g.

At first, I thought it was a nicely struck barbaric imitation of a late Roman coin, but the reverse looks later (Vandals? Anglo-Saxons? Celt? English?) and the legend looks more purposeful than the usual series of I’s and O’s.

I’d be very grateful for any thoughts on what issue it’s intended to be and the likelihood that its contemporary vs, modern (my current suspicion). Thanks!

Its a 11th century irish 1 penny

Thanks so much!! Do you have any thoughts on whether it could be genuine? The weight appears correct but the flattened edges are highly suspect, as well as the greenish spots.

Unfortunately, I am not feeling good about your example but allowing you and others to compare and judge for yourself..

Well, about authenticity, only way is grading it or take it to an specialized auction/shop.

Thanks so much for the additional (and side-by-side) comparables! The more I see, the more I wonder if it actually could be original.

Nobody can say for certain with just photos and It could go either way but a healthy skeptisim is in order. Notice in the link previously provided that none are for sale in any variety or condition, not even replicas.  Almost nobody on Numista even claims to have a genuine one in their possession. It is best to keep your expectations low and hopefully be pleasantly surprised and if it it turns out to be a replica, you wont be so disappointed. These coins are clearly not plentiful and easily obtainable. Good luck with it.
