Good Morning all

A hammered I found last week

Spinks and here suggest Elizabeth1 Half Groat - the shield , the 2 dots - little else visible to aid ID

Weight , 1g

But diameter is 10mm, only ones I can see are listed at 17mm. No further detail in Spinks

Could anyone aide identification please?

Thanks

Greg

Thank, doesn't appear to be anything on that list -  a shield clearly visible ( as per Spinks images of half groat) and why the two dots?

I would guess that the coin has been clipped. That explains why the diameter search didn’t turn anything up.

Doesnt look 3.5mm of clipping on it

If that ruler is showing 1cm then I would say your coin is around 12-13mm diameter - it is heavily worn and clipped.

You have already identified it as Elizabeth I half-groat (6th or 7th issue), so you will need to identify the mint mark to clarify the year of issue.

Just because you can't see it ... doesn't mean it isn't there - Anon.
