Pretty cool scarce to rare Byzantine ruler I recently picked up. I observed a few similar types at various locations around the web, but interestingly this coin is not on Numista yet, as I only see 4 Apsimar coins currently in the catalog. I probably will be the one to upload soon.

3.8g

20mm from tip to top of curve and 25mm from point to point.

On obverse, I see a full figure facing, with left arm holding some kind of spear or staff, and right arm extended the other way. No letters seen on the obverse?

Reverse to me is double struck, as I see the primary K (20) to the upper right of the coin, and the secondary K in the center. The word ANN(O) is off to the left of the K at center. I do see a cross to the top of the secondary K, and what appears to be other nearly unintelligible symbols around the reverse.

They are more frequently found than they used to be, but the ½ follis is still a bit scarce. It is usually overstruck on previous coinage, so it is always a mess. Here is mine as a comparison:

Byzantine Empire: Tiberius III Apsimar (698-705) Æ Half Follis, Constantinople (Sear 1369; DOC II.13; MIB 76)

Obv: Legend normally illegible or only fragmentary; Tiberius standing facing, wearing crown and military costume, and holding globus cruciger and long cross
Rev: Large K between A/N/N/O and Δ; above, cross(?); beneath, officina letter Δ
Dim: 3.7 g, 27 mm

A gallery of my coins and artifacts can been seen on FORVM Ancient Coins

Topic bump. I added this to Numista already but just needs to be validated…
