Confusion around Australian AFL $1 coins from 2023 & 2024

I've been seeing a lot of the 2023 & 2024 AFL team $1 coins in circulation. These ones https://en.numista.com/catalogue/index.php?se=1545&p=1,

I must've seen like 10-15 of the non-coloured team ones (listed in the catalogue as non-circulating) in circulation, and it seems like wayyy too many to be finding of a supposed non-circulating release.

As far as I'm aware, they were released the same way as the NRL one dollars (https://en.numista.com/catalogue/index.php?se=5192&p=1), but I haven't seen a single NRL one dollar in the wild.

I asked on reddit and people there reckoned both the AFL and NRL ones were circulating through AusPost and Anaconda respectively, and that one of them had uncarded the coins and put them in the tills, but I figured here might be more trustworthy.

Anyway, I'd appreciate any guidance as I'm trying to decide if I need to get em all for my circulating decimal collection.

Cheers!

Good idea to get them.

I have some in my collection - even though I am in New Zealand.

Aidan.

There is no confusion . . these are the facts.

With regards to the the 2023 AFL $1 Coins.

Only these 2 were released by Australia Post into circulation in change from their cash registers.

The rest of the 2023 ones for each club were issued in tubes or coincards that you had to buy at a premium price.

With regards to the 2024 series AFL $1 Coins

Only these 2 were released by Australia Post into circulation in change from their cash registers.

The rest of the 2024 ones for each club were issued in tubes or coincards that you had to buy at a premium price.

With regards to the 2024 NRL $1 Coins issued by Anaconda Stores

None of them were issued into circulation, you had to buy them in Tubes or coincards at a premium price.

However the 2024 NRL $2 coins were released into circulation by Anaconda from their cash registers.

That is not to say that some of these NCLT coins have not found their way into circulation because these types of coins usually do, but they were not intended to go into circ.

Ok thanks, that clears it up.

It still seems really surprising to me because I've found quite a few of the club coins in change, and I've also seen a lot of circulated examples for sale on eBay, which is what made me question it in the first place.

But your explanation makes sense — thanks for the clarification. If none of the team coins were intended to enter circulation, it sounds like I already have all six of the ones that were actually released into circulation.

Cheers
