Djibouti Notgeld needs to be retitled as ‘French Somaliland Notgeld’ - as Djibouti City is now the capital of the Republic of Djibouti.

Aidan.

Djibouti was called ‘French Somaliland’ until 1967, then the French Territory of the Afars & the Issas until 1977, then the Republic of Djibouti since then.

I disagree, there's not a whole lot of information on the subject but I think the issuer of the notgeld was the Chamber of Commerce of Djibouti (the city) itself and not the country as a whole?

A chamber of commerce is usually private and not a government agency, so the currency issued by them is privately issued, so Djibouti as the issuer (the city not the country) would make sense as it wouldn't be issued by the French Djibouti government.

There is probably a reason why numista has labelled them seperately if the referee for Djibouti can share their views.

Hello!

There are other issues cataloged as Djibouti (notgeld). Apparently, these were emergency issues at the end of the First World War.

Since it's a local issue from the Djibouti Chamber of Commerce (which, according to the SCWPM, is under the French Somaliland period), it seems more sensible to leave them where they are.

I would like to hear other opinions on the subject. If any user is an expert on the topic, their opinion would be welcome in the discussion. =)

Regards,

French Somaliland was the name of the entity where these circulated.
