Hello everyone, I recently came across a 1990 Malaysia 20 Sen coin in my collection. On close inspection, I noticed the “20” and the “SEN” letters on the reverse seem to show what looks like doubling — as if there are shadow lines or slight shifting, possibly due to die-stress or a weak strike.
I want to clarify: this coin has not been cleaned or chemically treated, and the weight and size match the official specifications perfectly.
I suspect the cause may be machine-doubling (or strike weakness + die deterioration).
I’d like to ask the community:
In your experience, would you consider this kind of doubling or strike-weakness a valid error coin with collectible value?
If this coin were submitted for grading (e.g. under PCGS or NGC), what outcome would you expect (e.g. certified as “error”, or just “normal issue with strike weakness/condition issues”)?
Or do you think it’s more likely to be regarded as a common circulation/strike-imperfect coin, not deserving any premium?
My personal judgement currently is that it is a regular circulation coin with some strike-issue — but I really appreciate hearing from any experienced collectors or error-coin experts for a second opinion.
Many thanks for your time and knowledge 🙏
