Hi,

Can someone help me determine which banknotes were in circulation in Russia on July 2016?

I collect circulating banknotes for the year 2016 for my son.

I've been unable to determine which notes were in circulation for this year. Some sources say that the 1997 5 ruble was discontinued and also the 10 ruble until a later date. I'd like to know which were in circulation in 2016 to complete my collection properly.

Many thanks.

У меня есть банкноты образца 1997 года. Что мне с ними делать? Надо ли их менять на новые банкноты?

Банкноты образца 1997 года, наравне с модернизированными, являются законным средством платежа.

Central bank says that 1997 notes are legal tender. They tell that even 1 kopeck coin is legal tender as of 2019.

Maybe I'm wrong but I think the question is not what was still legal tender in 2016 but what was still actively circulating.  These coins were legal tender in the US in 2016 but unlikely to have actively circulated.

Prices are rounded down to ten kopeck, if that photo matches article time. If you are paying in cash, you will have 5 paper rubles and coins in your wallet. Although 5-10 ruble coins are more likely to be used. 100-200 gram cottage cheese shelf with prices visible.

That CB FAQ also says that old notes are not actively removed from circulation.

I would ignore the 1997 5 rubles, it could've theoretically been in use but I'm doubtful it was used for too long considering it was never modified like the other denominations. I would probably do something like:

2004 modification 10, 50, 100 rubles
2010 modification 500, 1000, 5000 rubles
And the two commemoratives that had been issued by that point.
