Swaps with India

I have had a request for swap from India. However, I have read somewhere that Indian post does not allow sending coins via mail. A friend who lives in India also confirmed it. Can anyone shed some light on this??

My information is: Since some years in India its no longer allowed by law to send coins which are older than 100years abroad.

In the meanwhile its no longer allowed to send coins within India and abroad too.

But here at Numista are some collectors from India which still could send coins abroad. The reason why it still works is that they have a contact to a custom agent which is corrupt and with paying bribe its possible to send the letter with coins abroad.

Sure we can post coins to anywhere through indian post.

But here, i am from southern part of india, kerala, my post office always insist on opening the parcel to see the contents. , so the last minute packing doesn't come out pretty.

initially, coins could be sent by registered letter.but now its not possible to send it like that. coins can only be sent frome here as insured parcels. because of that, the shipping cost is very high.

Next nuisance is the customs. to send coins abroad, a numismatic club membership card/ letter  must be included with the parcel. (thats my case only) and when we receive the swap coins from abroad, they will charge huge customs duty to release the parcel.

we have the same in Norway that money cant be sent. but if we mark it as tokens, it is ok.

the way they want us to send money , costs 80 dollars or so
