I am adding marks of officials (assayers and scale judges weight masters) of the Royal Mint of Spain in the comments of the coins, but I have realised that they can be added as “other marks”. For example, this mint https://en.numista.com/catalogue/mint.php?id=4178 has assayers.

By moment, I only request add marks of officials from 1869. I expect the marks in the mint page are sorted by date of use, not by date of record creation!

Note: What is the correct in English for (ES) juez de balanza? I use “scale judge” but Google has results for “judge of balance”.

Edit: I found the words “weight master” and it is more used, so I write here it. https://en.numista.com/forum/topic156292.html#p1221916

In those years the coins had three letters of mint officials (assayer - assayer - weight master) and the order of writing is important for know who is who. So, I do not know how could be added this to Numista. I mention the referees of Spain to comment this.

Edit: Marks are sorted by entry time, it is works.

The mint officials are these:

mark       years                assayer - assayer - weight master
SN-M      1869-1870      Donato Álvarez Santullano - José Rafael Narváez - Ángel Mendoza Ordóñez

VV          1937                   Victor Villanueva Vadillo (assayer = (ES) “fiel contraste”)

If all mint officials are separated, some assayers have the same mark but their years are different

mark    years                     assayer
S            1869-1873            Donato Álvarez Santullano
S            1879-1887            Pablo de Sala Gabarrell
S            1897-1909            Arturo Sandoval Lieuvín
M            1878-1890            Mauricio Morejón Bueno
M            1899-1906            Miguel Martínez Fraile
M            1929-1930            Manuel Fulgencio Martín García
P             1887-1896            Félix Miguel Peiró Rodrigo
P             1909-1914; 1925-1928            Vidal Peiró y Zafra
L             1906-1910            Vicente López Fernández
L             1929-1930            Luis Lirio Santos Lamadrid

so I think there is no problem. What I do not know is whether the order of writing is respected in the “other marks” field of a page of coin. Marks are sorted by entry time.

My request is add these marks of mint officials:

mark    years                      weight master

I don't think there is another word other then the translation in English but I would also say Chief assayer comes closest to the job description.

I don't think there is another word other then the translation in English but I would also say Chief assayer comes closest to the job description.

Assayers were responsible for ensuring that coins had the fineness of precious metals required by law. Judges of the scales (or whatever they are called in English) were responsible for the total weight of the coin.

Referee for Spain, Iberia (ancient), Suebi Kingdom and Visigothic Kingdom

In the English definitions I found assayers are responsible for chemical purity as well as the right weight.

“Juez de balanza” seems a role own the influence Spanish areas but it must be translate to English. We can not use “assayer” for both roles ("ensayador" and “juez de balanza”).

I found other translation: weightmaster

Google returns these results (I searched together with "assayer" -site:numista.com to get results related with coins and avoid Numista pages):

Perhaps we should use weightmaster (if there is not a better word)…

Have you seen their ngrams?

No, I did not. I see the most used is “weightmaster” (and the second most used is “weight master”).

This does not take context into account but... the results match Google searches. What do English speakers think?

I realised in last years Google says "weight master" (with a space) is the most used.

I write “weight master” in my request… waiting for others opinions.

Marks are sorted by entry time, it is works. So, this can be done without any problems.
