Haile Selassie gold "25th Anniversary of Reign" Medallic 1/2 Talari EE 1948 (1956) KM-X20, Gill-S34

Even though there is a KM designation, it does not yield a return.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

The NGC website states the weight as 13.8 grams.

I've scoured the web and found previous sales on various auction sites.  The listed weight ranges from the 13.8 noted by NGC to 13.97, 14.39 and 14.43.

However, none of those auctions note the purity of the gold.

Here is a picture of the medal in question:

Sorry, but I don't think anyone knows.

Here is the listing in Unusual World Coins, Bruce, 3rd edition, 1991.

Mr. Midnight, I appreciate the quick reply.

I'm with you, I can't seem to find any info regarding the purity, no matter where I look.

I've even checked similar Ethiopian medals and many of them also do not indicate a purity.

From what I can find, most Ethiopian coins are .900 purity.

However, this is not a coin, it's a medal, so I can't just make any assumptions.

I'm still hopeful someone on this forum may have an answer.

Thanks again!

Do you own the medal?  If  yes, than do an XRF-test on it.
That will tell you the exact purity.

...you can run,  but you can't hide...

Thanks Yvon, unfortunately I don't own the equipment necessary to determine the purity.

I was hoping to avoid having to take the medal for a long car ride to where the equipment is.

I was hoping someone here might know the answer.

I do not know where you are living, but every serious jeweller or metal-dealer owns an XRF-device nowadays.
I understand you do not have one by yourself, the prices of this things start at something like $10,000.- but
they are very usefull…it will take away any doubt about the composition of your coin, medal or whatever.
