I am presently showcasing my 1st collection of banknotes on this Coin Community Family/Forum (CCF) thread entitled “Walktothewater's Bank of Canada…” collection.

I started posting images of my notes on CCF in 2018 when our Canadian Paper Money Forum CPMF temporarily shut down.  This meant that the majority of my collection was archived & I just had to cut/paste the images.  That's why i thought it may be a good idea to consolidate the collection of various posts (over the past 5 years) under 1 thread.

I started my collection in 1976. Hope you stop by & take a peek.

Thanks for stopping by akhai!

Edit: just to add that if you read my comments you may notice how my lack of grading skills, (improvement on that front eventually) & a few mistakes helped shape my collection.   My recent set of Devil's Face are probably the worst though there's a lot of wonky centred 1935 examples too. Next weekend I will continue with the Modified 1954 series.

Those are awesome notes in great condition. I have not seen most of them. New faces on the notes as well. Will have to read about them at leisure.

I like your title - Pillar of the Community👌

The 1935 notes of the Bank of Canada are unobtainable to the average collector.

I have a 1937 1 Dollar as my earliest note for the Bank of Canada.

Thanks BlueHawk (most kind)!

I agree (& it sucks) but they only last 2 short years. All the denominations would have been “work horses” & heavily circulated too (except the $50 & $100 which would have been kept in SDB).  Worst of all, is that 80-90% of the few remaining notes were bought up years ago by US collectors/dealers. The dealers than look at our catalogues & priced them the same but in USD! This phenomenon started long ago & it has continued & added 40% to the prices (almost on a year-to-year bases). I bought the examples you saw between 2015-2018 from CDN sellers (in CDN) but for BV plus taxes (which was 13%) but better than US sellers. It took me 3 years of looking & careful financing in order to do it (& I did it after my mortgage was paid off).

Super notes! My favorite are the young princess Elizabeth notes.

After seeing the high grade 1937 H/A note, I was wondering if you had a high grade J/A too, but I guess not. They're tough in any grade. Here's mine:

Nice thread :)

That's a super range of notes you have there! I have always liked the Canadian notes, my favourite remains the 1970s series which I kept as some of the first notes when I was starting out to collect.

We're talking museum-quality notes for most of them. This is quite a remarkable collection, Serial_Number_8.

How can you tell the Test notes from the others?

- I have never seen a J/A for sale other than a few high grade examples which quickly went through the roof & beyond my budget. Great note Steve & thanks for dropping by.

-Actually it was the 1969-1975 Series which really got me motivated to collect. I felt like we finally had moved on (as a nation) by recognizing our past PM's rather than just QEII.  Thanks for checking my thread out Hibernia.

A) How can you tell the Test notes from the others? B) Check out some of my Canadian notes up on ..Please let me know what you think.

A) Bank of Canada Test notes have certain prefixes not listed on the SCWPM (only Charlton). Here's a link to Notaphilyc Terms. Scroll down to Test Notes for 1 explanation. B) You have a broad collection of Canadian Tire money, Dominion, Chartered banknotes & Bank of Canada dating all the way back to 1937 Aidan. Thanks for dropping by & well done on your CDN set!

Tomorrow, I will complete posting my 1954 Modified set. Next weekend, I will cover my 1969-1975 denominations.  I'm hoping you will stop by again to see what I have to show. Thanks to all those who have taken a peek!

Thanks Camerinvs!

In order not to go completely broke, I decided to occupy myself with this website called Notaphilyc Culture 4 years ago this month (of August). On my Collector's Corner page I have kept a weekly post called “Recent Observations” as part of my hobby.

You are not broke. 🤣You have just simply placed your hard earned cash into the most sought after cash.

Very nice thought! Thank you for your trust in my judgement!

Anyway, I am still contributing to the above CCF thread (a month later) but it will be done before long.

I guess @ahkai is correct. I just had to re-adjust my priorities.

Here's the last note for my 1935 set ($1.00 to $20.00 examples in either English or French). This is the much easier English version but it is far tougher than a $5.00 (or $2.00 in English).  I believe its actually quite underrated (in terms of how hard it is to get one in original condition):

I put a low-ball bid on a Colonial Acres Coin 1935 English TEN auctioned (in May) & won (much to my surprise). I am not a big fan of Legacy grading & was a bit reluctant to bid on this note but after much comparing (other so-called “VF” examples of the English 1935 $10.00) I decided to “pull the trigger.” The note has pretty decent, deep, dark colours so I figured I couldn't go wrong bidding on it & I like the way it's perfectly centred.  Anyway, no more 35' notes needed for the time being (unless I somehow manage to win our lotto 6/49 & have the luxury to splurge on a $25 commemorative).

Nice note.

It's always great to see what you have in your collection. Unlike you, I have very little interest in old notes. It is not that I do not like to get them, but rather the cost of getting one. I always wanted to get a full set of the last notes of Australia (nd1961) before converting to decimal currency (14.02.1966 Valentine day), and so far I only managed to get the one pound note. I had the opportunity to get the 10 shilling years ago, and did not go ahead. Now I am regretting it as it is quite hard to get one in UNC condition. This note is now selling quite expensive in UNC condition. I also almost bought the 10 pounds note for A$900 some years ago, but did not believe the note was in UNC condition, despite the seller telling me so. It was during a local show and I was not 100% convinced that the note was in UNC condition, so I decided not to take the risk.

Nowadays, I just buy new issues and sit on them hoping that the value will go up one day. Whether I live to see this is another story to tell. So far, a few of them are showing very good investments.

I like those old Canadian notes printed with various members of the royal family.

That is probably the wisest move @ahkai (TBH) b/c what many of us do is buy circulated examples since they're so dear.  Ten or more years later & we consider ourselves lucky if we sell them for what we paid for them! That note actually marks the end of my 1935 higher denominations which I bought ungraded (or “raw”) so the other reason why I “pulled the trigger.” The ungraded notes I sold were all washed or pressed or both (processed) with the exception of the $20 large seal (original).  I used the money I gained by selling my large seal 1935 $20 to buy this $10.00.  It has taken me several years to buy this note b/c 90% of the notes I see are not EPQ (PPQ) nor “Original.”

When I got back into the hobby in 2001, I just started looking online & all those pre-decimal Australian notes were super pricey. I was interested b/c a lot of CDN collectors I talked to were very keen on Australian banknotes (we knew they were tough). Anyway, I was very happy to win this 10/- note & it was one of my first World banknote wins (but it is AU):

EPQ (PPQ)

Agree strongly. I would see the quality mark as a must have for graded notes.

That is a very nice 10 shilling note, btw :)
