This one cost me $900aud. A huge chunk out of my bank account 😱. But its a coin I've been wanting for a while.

I remember you posted looking for a coin show in Brisbane, did you end up going to the event that was on this weekend?

That was me. I haven't been to it. I don't think I will be going to a coin show anytime soon though. I was wanting to get the gold coin from there, but I found one somewhere else.

A very nice example you have there.
Always one of my favourite coins, a Victorian Sov.

Good work!
I have had various gold coins over the years, but nothing substantive. Last ones I had were a 1953 Proof sovereign and half soverign of South Africa (With South African Springbok designs, but Pretoria was the last mint to Issue classic British sovereigns in 1932 - Classic by meaning before they were essentially canned in 1933 and before reminting of them started in 1957 to please the Arab market).
I do intend to start buying gold next year when I get a windfall.
On the plus side, I have around 10kg of silver coins, including many proofs and blingy ones.
I love coins. Especially silver, gold and anything really old.

I used to have one! I was very excited, it was also my first gold coin.
I bought it for less than scrap value and sold it for a profit after owning it for a few months.
I enjoyed it, and then moved it on :)

That's much wiser move than keeping cash in the bank which will not proliferate. The gold price will double in a few years plus the coin premium.

I bought a Proof one for each of my children on the years they were born, but have never got round to telling them about this. Even if they just sell them when they find out, at least I've had the pleasure of owning Gold Proof Sovereigns.

1st Sovereign was bought in 1999, so that one's really gone up in value. Wish I'd bought more.

I do now, and a half sovereign, 1980 proofs in awful plush cases.
Got them pretty cheap off a stamp collector who apparently paid $10 each for them.
Proof sovereign, owned for one day
And just sold to it a friend for some really nice banknotes.
