I have 2 sets of 1975 Mint Rhodesian coins in plastic sleeves. Are these worth anything?

Hello and welcome to Numista!

It depends greatly on exactly what you have.  I'm assuming you have one of each of these?

Are they Proof or just an uncirculated set?  To give you a sense of the difference in value here's NGC valuation for the 25 cent coin.  You probably won't realize these values but it indicates the large difference in value.

Is there a certificate in that pouch?

Hello! Generally speaking and from what we may see by photos, the coins are in uncirculated grade and they do not have the appearance of specially minted PROOF coins.

BUT,the K.M. catalogue doesn't speak of ''Unciculated'' sets but of ‘'Proof’' sets. If so,they are of huge value because very few were minted! Only several pièces!

That's why is important what is written on the original C.O.A….

And how many different coins do you have in your set? From photo,I may guess that there are 6 different denominations.

This gives a catalogue mkt. price of 3000 usd.,with only 4 same sets minted in 1975!!!

Where did you get these coins because it's a rare chance to find something like this?!?…

I attache for you a screenshot of the K.M. page,to see yourself:

Dear Andi,

If they are indeed UNC and not Proof then you should use the Krause catalog value value for MS60 (mint state) with values of US $1 for the 20 cent coin and US $3 for the 25 cent coin (the same as I showed in link I posted).  So for the 6 in the set, maybe US $15 - $18.  I believe they are not proofs but hoping the OP has the certificate to determine exactly which they are.

Hi! Dear friend,rsirian1,I said about the same thing:

- the coins do not seem to be in a minted PROOF quality/grade!

- it is very important what says the original C.O.A.!

- the K.M. catalogue,by the other hand, doesn't speak of any other ''Uncirculated''sets in 1975, only the ''proof'' ones…

- Of course, you are very right that if we add the Unc. values of the 6 denominations,we reach a much, much less total value…

Friendly yours,

Andi

Yes that is true but many (most?) times Krause does catalog MS sets and never if they are assembled by a third party.  Besides, there are only 4 coins in the Proof sets and this set has at least six.

My friend rsirian1,now you face, sorry,an error! You haven't paid much attention on the screenshot I provided from the KM cat.! Please, see that there are 4 minted 1975 proof sets with 6 different coins in that set. Market value given for that 6 pcs.PROOF set is 3000 usd.

Ah yes.  PS8.  I missed that.

I recently bought one of these 1975 Unc sets for £10.

Just because you can't see it ... doesn't mean it isn't there - Anon.

Hi,radrick007!

That is all clear now: ‘’Uncirculated'' sets 1975,like that of our friend who opened the topic, are worth some 15usd.

The others(PROOF,mirror like minted coins) which are much more rare & valuable, have a catalogue market value of 3000 usd.(for the 6 pieces sets of different coins).
