Hi,

I was able to map this ½ rupee to Aurangzeb but unable to map it to the Mint or Catalog number. Can someone help me to get a correct identification for this coin? I believe the mint mark on reverse is for Gorakpur or Murshidabad but unable to find any Aurangzeb coins for these mints.

Reverse

The coin is of Surat mint. Early Mughal coins generally do not have mint specific marks. They are just ornate designs on the coin.

Here is a similar ½ Rupee https://www.zeno.ru/showphoto.php?photo=79008

Also here is a similar 1 Rupee that shows complete mint name on the reverse https://www.zeno.ru/showphoto.php?photo=31172

Thx for your help.  Can you guide me with the steps you took to find the similar coin. I did search high and low but did not stumble across this variety. Also even though I have the mint names printed from catalog, i was unable to match it to Surat. Would love some tips from you.

Thanks for cropping :) I am purposefully leaving a lot of white space around the image as I am making a composite of both coins with all coin information as shown below:

Thanks to help from @parimal, i also was able to map the mint name written on the coin after looking at it carefully.  The plan is to have a slideshow on my TV using PLEX server, so i can share my dad's collection with guests on a big screen and enjoy each coin along with its details.

I read the mint name Surat on the coin and searched in that particular section on zeno website. Do not have any specific tips but I find below resources very useful. Maybe they will help you too in reading these coins.
