Released today by the Royal Australian Mint is a pair of NCLT 30 cent, Aluminium-bronze, coloured, scalloped edge, coins. They are celebrating 30 years of the famous "Wiggles" childrens entertainers.

Very unusual denomination and also very unusual shape.

I have uploaded them to Numista and when I get actual coins delivered to me I will replace the pics with real ones.

Mike,
Great pair of coins with very unusual face values.
I'm just a collector of coins, not a slave to it, unless I am in a coin shop.
For all you banknote collectors. Link to my swap list.

Is this legal tender in Australia? Not that you would want to pay with it, but is it allowed?
They say "Pecunia non olet", but I know better...

These look more like Pokemon style play tokens.

Yes they are NCLT, Non Circulating Legal Tender. But if you have just paid the RAM $40 for the set of 2 coins you would be crazy to spend them in a shop for face value of 30 cents each.

The images I have put up are just RAM drawings of course. When I get my hands on some real coins I will put up some pics of the real coins. I think they will look a lot better in the flesh.

These are not actually the first Wiggles coins released in Australia. On the 20th Anniversary of the Wiggles in 2011 the Perth Mint issued four $1 NCLT Coloured coins to celebrate that milestone. Each one was issued in a guitar shaped coincard.

These were oversized $1 coins at 39.34mm diameter.

Very interesting coins.

The coins every collector needs.
P. S. When are they issuing a coin for Jim Jeffries?

Maybe somebody like them, fine, but definitly not

Who is Jim Jeffries? I have never heard of him. Definitely not as famous as The Wiggles haha.

And yes these coins are not for everyone. They are aimed at the Kiddy market and something the RAM is doing to try to get kids interested in coin collecting. We all know that circulating coinage is starting to decline and churning out coins like this is one way for the RAM to stay in business.

I will get them because I collect all Australian Decimal coins except for the really expensive ones.

On Wednesday 6th October four coloured circulation $2 coins and 2 NCLT $1 coins will be released. These will also commemorate 30 Years of the Wiggles.

I will put up a separate post about them.
