The wonderfully rural vistas of the Faroe Islands on this 50 Kronur...

It still saddens me that I couln't keep all denominations of the Faroese notes when I were there. I were there in 2011, and since I only were a student I didn't have much money in general, so when I was leaving I wanted to keep a note of each denominatin so bad, but I felt that i couldn't afford it, so I only saved a 50 and a 100 krónur note. All other, in denomination 200, 500, 1,000 krónur I was forced to exchange back. :(
That is tough... but wow! You got to go there?

It was, believe me. I wanted to keep them soo bad. I'm trying to get my wife to go there - she's Greek, so she can't really see the point to go to a place that is even colder than Sweden, lol!

Yeah, I went there with a mate for two weeks in the summer of 2011. Our plan was to hike, but we only hiked for like two days before we took the bus to the capital Tórshavn. The next day we rented a car, haha! We still spent a few nights in the tent we brought, but mostly we took in at guesthouses and hostels.
The climate is really tough though, and even thoug we went there is the summer we never experienced the summer heat. The temperature were around 15-20 degrees Celsius, and it was really windy. We were lucky though, because in July (I believe it was July, or maybe June), they have 25 days of rain! For the whole time we were there we only had rain for like one or two days.

We took the ferry both to Suðuroy were I almost blew over the southernmost cliffs in Sumba (as depicted on the banknote). We also spent a few days on Mykines hoping to at least get a glimpse of the puffins. What we didn't know was that you have to be blind not to see them. There were hundreds and hundreds of small atlantic puffins all over the island. It was trully amazing! If you would go there, I's say that one week is plenty. If you rent a car you will be able to visit pretty much all the islands from Vágar (where the airport is) to Vidoy without having to rush.

Story of my life: rarely kept currency from any country lived in or visited. The good news is you can always get pretty inexpensive UNC examples (though Faroe Islands can be a bit dear).

Sounds like a memorable trip & these memories will always be priceless...

Faroe Islands & underwater tunnels
Interesting setup of tunnels. Posting this due to the ongoing discussion.

Wow, that's so cool! Thanks for sharing. :)
As the chances are a little higher to make it to Copenhagen rather than to the Faroer Islands: You can get Faroese banknotes at the National Banken at face value + a 200 Kroner fee. They also ship worldwide…

in the end everything will be good - if it's not good, then it's not the end...

200 DKK fee? On the Faroes there were no extra chaerges at all, so it's almost cheaper to go there just to exchange. :P

The Faeroese Krona is not an independent currency, but just a local version of the Danish Krone.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Faroese_kr%C3%B3na .

Danmarks Nationalbank will sell Faeroese banknotes at their face value.

Aidan.
well, for sure it might be cheaper if you are at Faroer anway and are lucky to get crisp unc Faroese notes from the ATM or find a commercial bank that a) has crisp unc notes and b) is willing to exchange these for you as non-client. (Plan c) you are happy with used notes).

The 200 DKK (which is 25 EUR) is a handling fee that they also would charge, if you exchange DKK cash at the National Bank for DKK cash, as they would expect the public to use commercial banks for their cash business.

If I see it correctly in Ebay, it might indeed be cheaper to order at the National Bank, pay their 200 DKK handling fee + postage instead of buying from the secondary market - of course only if you order a whole set or even more… Not worth for the 50 Kroner note alone.

Like I said above, in the Faroes there were no exchange fee for convert the Danish banknotes to Faroese. But can they really guarantee that the notes are crisp UNC?

Well, that is true, though. The Faroese notes are crazy expensive!
Anybody in for a group buy of some Faroer/Danish notes or recent coins? I can ship notes worldwide for €1.5 and we split up the 200DKK + shipping (another 300DKK) according to the amount of items we order (might also be only a few euro's). There is a limit of 5 notes per type, so only the first 4 to write me get the 50 kr and 100kr from Faroer (as I also want one of each), of the higher value ones there are 5 available. Also the Danish notes available of course, the more interest the lower the cost.
If you are interested, drop me a PM and I'll organise it. <:D

Even though it was a very poor picture, they still look great, right? :O
And it's amazing just watching these dramatic paintings on the reverse and remember when I was there, on the blowy hills of Sumba (50 krónur), or when I was camping in Klaksvík (100 Krónur) and the rain just poured straight into our tent and soaked everything. Or when we drove to Hvannasundi (500 krónur) and all these crazy tunnels up there with just one lane, so you were really nervous that you would meet a big truck halfway (there were these "meeting pockets" every 200 or 500 meters, but the tunnels were several kilometers long, and they curved right and left all the time, and all of a sudden you saw a pair of light coming straight at you, and you prayed that it wouldn't be a tractor that would damage our rental car :8D ). So yeah, a lot of memories from from these notes. :)

I'll post the reverses too, sou you can enjoy them too. :D
Here's the reverse:

Those are lovely scenes on the reverse sides. I always liked the look of the fronts (which I've seen in listings on eBay so many times) but have never saw the backs- and I have to say the scenes are really something. No wonder you wanted them.

I believe Samoa does, and St. Helena, although I have yet to purchase from either.

Someone had mentioned that it might be of interest to link specific videos of banknote videos into the comments section of the page. I had inquired and there was no negative feedback. So I have sent a request to the referee to approve the link in the comment section. Maybe other folks will consider making videos and doing the same.

Yes, that was me. Your videos are very informative in a fun way, and to write all that in the Comments field would probably result in that noone would read it. Lol! :P
Well...I submitted it. We shall see what the referee thinks. ..

I can't see any reason why it would be rejected.

Sorry to dredge up this old thread, but I felt pretty good snagging this 100 Kronor at auction yesterday (love the art work on it) plus I love to fish!:

It's one of my favorite series..

The entire series of notes are just stunning. Should get them in full set - 2001 first prints and then 2012 (nd2011) reprints.

https://paperbanknotes.blogspot.com - Any offer for exchange is most welcome.
My spares: https://paperbanknotes.blogspot.com/2006/08/all-notes-listed-below-are-all-offered.html

Slowly but surely.
