Which programming language(s) is Numista written in?

I am new to web development and would like to do up a similar online catalogue for stamps in my spare time. What are some of the technical knowledge I would require? Which platform was used in the initial stages in hosting this site?

Any inputs would be greatly appreciated.

Hello,

The software of Numista is written in PHP and uses a MySQL database.

Other technologies in use include Nginx, jQuery, ImageMagick, and more recently ElasticSearch.

The website used shared hosting provided by Free and then by OVH in the early days. It now has a dedicated server hosted by OVH.

Almost no cloud, no fancy framework.

Numista was started 18 years ago. You may want to make different choices based on the current technology landscape.

Thank you very much! I have not seen PHP being used in a while.

I believe that perhaps C sharp and/or Java could be one of the better options these days as it is widely used for writing apps but I am still a novice at both.

No one builds websites with C# or Java, they are used to build big enterprise applications and are used only for the back end, so you still need some framework/language for UI, if you want same language for back end and front end look to the React/Node.js and other frameworks based on JavaScript/TypeScript like Angular/Vue/Meteor

+1.  It sounds like Numista is working off of a basic LAMP stack but letting Nginx manage the web services.  That's how it's done even in some large IT enterprises in the United States.  There's nothing wrong with that.

PHP actually powers 75% of all websites.

+1.  I've used it myself.  It's not going away.

Thank you all
