In case you heard the news that the East African Govt. has launched a new currency called Sheafra (Shilling of East Africa and Franc), you would be mistaken on both counts. Neither does such a govt exist nor has any such official currency been launched.

The EAC (East African Community) has been deliberating on such a currency union, but it is far from being realised as of now it appears.

FAKE NEWS ALERT

Good work!

Taking a break from swapping for a while, but still interested in pre 1799 Spanish coins, I will make time for that!

Even if it was, I would bet some people would like to get their hands on a couple of these gems. 🤑

Even the article in Coins Weekly mentions this.

These only exist as a handful of images on Twitter.  Instead of a Prankster, had they been physically issued by some person/institute  who genuinely thought they represented “east Africa”, then yes. I’m sure there would have been quite a few out there scrambling to acquire these

Yes, that’s what I mentioned in the very first post as the OP

Those designs are awful. Sheafra sounds like a mix of Black ghetto baby names and a contestant on Rupauls drag race!

Those designs look like el cheapo word art.

I love coins. Especially silver, gold and anything really old.

Anyone noticed the 20 sheafra note has the 20 stolen from an old British 20 pound note of the 1970s

Why so negative? There are lots of countries that have bills similar to this, I’m pretty sure this was just for fun, not a serious plan for the next greatest design. Let’s see you do a better job.
