(en) The lords of Montjoie had the right to mint money. In 1554 the Emperor Charles V banned the use of this currency on the pretext that it was not valid, leading to the saying "bad payers pay in Montjoie currency". This prohibition had been taken by an edict of the parliament of Dole which forbade bringing, sending and using these coins in the county. This was also valid in Vauvillers and Franquemont but these two lordships were also prohibited from minting money, which remained authorized in Montjoie.
